How to become Private Investigator in Connecticut?

Connecticut won’t allow you to work as a private investigator if you do not possess license issued by Department of Public Safety, Connecticut. The basic requirement to become a private investigator in Connecticut is that you must be at least 25 years of age and of good moral character. You will have to undergo a thorough background criminal check.


You must have at least five years of practical experience in private investigation field. Also, you must have completed your education in political science or a criminal degree. The form must be duly filled, signed and notarized. Do not forget to attach your five year experience certificate to the application form. The state of Connecticut has two types of licenses. Renewal Information: A private security company license is issued for a period of 2 years. Ninety (90) days prior to the expiration of a license, the Special License and Firearms Unit will mail the licensee a renewal application.
