How to become private investigator in Kansas?

If you want to become a private investigator in Kansas you will have to get the required license from Kansas Bureau of Investigation. To get the license you will have to fulfill the basic requirement. You must be at least 21 years of age. You must be citizen of United States. You must be of good moral character and must not be convicted of any crime. You will have to undergo a thorough background check. You must be a graduate from a high school or GED certificate holder. You must have a surety bond of $100,000 or general liability insurance providing $100,000 of coverage for bodily injury or property damage caused by negligence and errors or omissions, or will have to deposit $100,000 with the State Treasurer. You must have passed an open book test private detective licensing act.

Then you will have to fill the application form to get the license. You can either download the form from KBI website or you can get the form from Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Attn: Private Detective Licensing, 1620 Tyler, Topeka, KS 66612 by mailing a price of $15. You must complete the form correctly. You must include all the necessary information in the form. Make sure that the information provided in the form is correct. Attach all the required documents to the form. The documents to be attached are statement of good character from 5 citizens with whom you are in contact with since 5 years and are not relatives, two colored photographs taken 30 days before the application, two fingerprint cards, proof of surety bond, current driving license, and verification of the education. Make sure that all the documents are correct. You will also have to pay a fee of $250 along with the application. If you want to get a firearm permit then you will have to provide a firearm training certificate along with application.

After getting the license it will be valid for two years. Hence be sure to renew the license every two years. The renewal fees are $175. The bureau asks to complete 8 hours of continuing education before the renewal of license. After getting the license you can work as a private investigator in Kansas.
